The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand JENfus9

Karin turned to face all those who had come- Everyone who had shown themselves in the face of Sovereign's double. "...I'm surprised so many are here, despite our last battle being only recently. But, I suppose I'm happy to see most of you."

She turned to each of them in turn. Faces she was very familiar with, some she only knew offhand. They all seemed to understand the truth at this point: Karin couldn't turn back, she had no choice but to fight them. Even Cero had arrived, and was more than prepared to take her down. She looked at him in particular first. "...Good. That's good. That's... why I'm here."

Staring up to the sky, at the faint shade of Sovereign above her, she continued. "My time is beginning to run short. What you see here, for me, is The End. After this, there will be nothing left. At the very least, you'll have one less enemy to deal with, when the rest of the Reapers attack you again." The transparent fight table appeared before her as she spoke, and her reality bangle glowed. "So, until my time stops..."

"...Fight with me, until the end."

With a flash from Karin's bangle, the shimmering phantom Sovereign solidified completely and sprung to life, its presence creating a heavy, oppressive atmosphere. What was once nothing more than an image, a ghost, was now very real. The fight with Sovereign's double begins!

Altered Skill: Daunting Deletor, Woksis

Darren took a step forward, his eyes giving a small glare as they changed to the purple tint that showed signs of his Seed power activation. Hearing Karin, her tone... he felt like she was trying to die. He didn't know her very well, but well enough to know he wish it didn't have to be this way. Still, he knew it had to happen. There was no turning back from the paths they chose. She couldn't be without her partner, Dragonic Overlord, and chose to side with a devil to be with him again. Malice was there when it happened. He knew all about it thanks to the transferal of memories.

He lifted his deck with stern determination. They had battled before, when he had Metalborgs. He won that fight. He wanted to say he was stronger now, but that was a lie of sorts. He still didn't have his new power under his full control. Using it would be difficult, and this was the Sovereign's power that was in her. Still, he needed to know he could defeat such a power. This battle would prove that among other things, where he stood in the battle of gods.

"I'll take you on..." Darren declared to her. Other word were pointless at this stage. All that was left was combat.

The blade of lightning by his side, Cero dashed forward passed Darren, fully willing to realize Karin's wish for 'the end.'  He would give it to her here, with his own hand, as he should've when he first saw her as a slave to the Reapers.  With the speed of lightning, hatred and rage swung its blade at Karin.  No words needed to be exchanged.  This time, she wouldn't defeat him.  The Kaiser refused to be embarrassed by defeat at her hands again. The Eradicators still stood by the Kaiser's side.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Trying to help in the rescue efforts of survivors in the war-torn Tokyo Tower, Carlos noticed a strange pillar of light in the distance. "Both Haruka and that Cero left without a goodbye or something. That was just rude- What the hell is that!?". Said pillar was coming from a pretty nostalgic area of the city for him - Rijuku Park. "The place where everything started for me... ". Leaving the rescue work in the hands of his fellow soldiers, the Narukami user picked up an abandoned bicycle fearing the worse.

Approaching the area, he could clearly see the silhouette of one the most hated Reapers in his list - Sovereign. The only difference in its appearance was that the squid looked smaller than the last time he saw it. After arriving, Carlos noticed some familiar faces among the people present willing to face whatever the hell was happening right there. But the surprise was that among them, at the center of the giant silhouette, was Karin - A pretty powerful Drone and a cardfighter he couldn't beat in the Chronicle's Eve tournament. Remembering her words detailing how only 'Yukino Espoir' could help her, he wondered how the hell he was going to approach the situation. "How the hell am I going to approach this situation!? I barely know Karin! And the only thing I know is that I can't help her! I don't even know what the hell I'm doing here!!".

Prepared to fight, Carlos raised his Bangle.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Dementuo Sat Oct 22, 2016 10:23 pm

The fight against the Kaiser commenced. They lashed at eachother back and forth, Cero striking to kill, and Karin taking the beating in kind. But, with Sovereign's strength behind her, the battle ended swiftly- The strongest Delete skill stacked with the added bonuses of a countercharge and an extra draw kept Karin's deletion going, and Tempest Bolt faced the full brunt of it. Critical after Critical appeared in Karin's drive checks, and Cero lacked the hand to guard everything. The sixth damage fell upon the Kaiser's dragons, and Karin felt her clock push forward a little further.

With the Kaiser defeated, she turned to the remainder of the group. Her eyes had gone hollow, and turned black and yellow, the color of a Reaper's eyes.

Seeing Cero jump ahead of him, Darren allowed him to battle Karin. The battle was a grueling one for the Kaiser, and it did not end in his victory. Darren was able to see Karin's abilities in that fight, or at least some of them. He understood what he was in for. His lips moved to give a grin. There was something... exciting about a situation like this.

He stepped forward more, meeting Karin face to face. "You've improved from before... or I guess its more power that they've given you. I want to meet your wishes with my own." At this point, Karin was less of an enemy to him and more of a rival he wanted to test himself against.

So the battles against Karin had begun and Cero was up first using his Narukami. But Karin fought back with Deletors and they made the fight a living hell for Cero.. literally throwing him around like a chew toy. Cero was defeated, and next was Darren. Neo was all too concerned for Darren considering just the other day he almost died but Neo trusted he knew what he was doing. So with his deck in hand, Neo watched the next fight closely.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Dementuo Sat Oct 22, 2016 11:09 pm

Before anything else could happen, another set of "Kaisers" appeared before Karin- The Great Daikaiser himself took to the fight, donning form after form, powering up each time. At its pinnacle, True Ultimate Daikaiser joined with Great Daiyusha in a joint attack against her, wielding the immense power to break through guardians... Only for Karin to drop two Perfect Guards at once. One of them broke, but the other held firm, sealing Karin's victory. The battle was hard-fought, and Karin's time was nearly up. She was beginning to feel heavy, and her body was slowing down. The end was coming for her, and very soon.

Hero vs Villian Face Off!! Darren vs Karin Revisited!

The battle began with each fighter riding and attacking one unit at a time. Darren was first to break this cycle by calling Daidragon to the rear after his Grade 2 ride. Karin was able to defend against it and mounted an assault after with her Sovereign. He could feel the force of the impact in his attacks. Darren answered back by riding his Super Dimensional Robo, Daikaiser. It summoned forth Gorescue to recover a damage dealt by a critical trigger before. It was clear the two were evenly matched. For the power she had obtained, Darren matched it with un-mastered might.

Sovereign soon deleted Daikaiser. This left Darren without his breakride skill. Unafraid, he transformed Daikaiser into the Ultimate Dimensional Robo, Great Daikaiser. His ability to triple drive left him with defense for the next turn, and he needed it. He was soon deleted again and at 5 damage. He even had one of his rear units locked. Things seemed grim, but Darren still didn't stop.

Darren then unleashed the ultimate form of his partner. "Reveal your true ultimate form! Ride..." His aura flared, a purple glow to his body as he dropped the unit and Daikaiser changed again. True... Ultimate Dimensional Robo, Great Daikaiser!!" The ultimate form of the great hero appeared as a new Daikaiser! Darren immediately called for his friend's partner. Ultimate Dimensional Robo, Great Daiyusha! Their combined power struck at Karin, but it wasn't enough to hit her. She narrowly escaped the final damage but was forced to lose much of her hand.

Karin answered back by deleting the True form of Daikaiser, his mate going along with him. She attacked, and Darren knew he could not guard it all. Even with that, he did not give up, and as he checked his damage, his hand started to glow. "Gorescue!" he called out as the damage revealed itself. The battle wasn't over yet. Even Karin seemed impressed with his display. They had both grown in strength, and this was proof. Darren was standing toe to toe with one of the deities of the Reapers and he was holding his own.

The next turn came. Darren saw he had no ability to ride from his hand again, no options. He called Daimariner to the rear guard. Would he try to attack with what he had? No, he used the power of Goyusha and preformed the trans-configuration ability of the Dimensional Robos. "Trans Dimension!" The final form of the Ultimate Hero appeared again without the restriction of Delete!

Darren's power emanated even stronger than before. His movements mimicked that of his Vanguard. He called a booster behind them and used Daimariner to add even more power. He struck at her with all of his might, forcing her 5 card hand to 1 due to a double perfect guard. He checked a Daikaiser, showing the Guard Break power of True Daikaiser despite the lack of Break Ride. The power that Deletors hindered was still possible, but it still wasn't enough this day.

Karin battled again, but not before riding Legion. The Sovereign was called away to end the fight. Darren had outlasted him, but another delete showed him unable to defend himself. He received 2 damage and the battle ended with that. Darren fell to one knee. He was exhausted, but still in one piece. He looked at Karin with a grin. If there was a chance for it, he would love to battle her again when she wasn't under the control of a freaky bug thing and he had full mastery of his own deck and powers. Today, this was his limit, perhaps because he already used everything he had.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Dementuo Sat Oct 22, 2016 11:54 pm

Karin's next fight was against another person she recognized: Carlos, who had pushed her to the brink once before during Chronicle's Eve. The devastating combo of Detonics Stinger powering up Armor Break Dragon for incredible power and a high Critical was something to be feared... And Karin ensured it would never arrive this time. She deleted Carlos' Vanguard before he even reached Grade 3, and kept it up in the following turn. With a full board of the Twin Deletors and three Buwimus backing them, Karin's field held pressure too immense for the boy to handle, and his hand wasn't large enough to guard every attack. And so Karin wrapped up another game with her victory.

But her time was running low, just about to run out. There was still someone she wanted to fight, to explain herself to...

"Haruka!"

Karin called out to her adoptive little brother, so certain that he was here. If there was one thing she could have faith in, it was that Haruka came. Whatever his reasons would be, she knew he'd show his face before the end. And so she waited, weary of the last bit of time she had left.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Jello Sun Oct 23, 2016 12:16 am

I won't let you run away from your pain, face it!

The charge was lead. Everyone put their faith in their powers to defeat the threat, but Haruka wasn't here for that. No, the threat was secondary to the life it put in danger. All things were secondary to those he had put faith in, especially when the path they were walking down was sacrificial. Haruka emerged, lack of respite showing all over him. What he carried in his hand was a jagged cleaver of sorts, clearly too large for the white-haired Commander. But he approached with it in his hand as if it was normal, a relic of great value.

His footsteps crunched the grass beneath him, the soles of his boots eating at the freshly cut grass of the park. His eyes were worn to antiquity as he approached her. Her face was memorable, but she herself was a fading image. Deceptive the world was when destruction bare its fangs upon it, that even those who planted their very humanity to the soil they walk upon can become fooled by it.

Her voice blazed to his ears like a loosely tied bell, its ring was rusted and missing its glamour. He emerged to her, his breath missing both its vigor and its calm. If it were not for the inability to comprehend his exhaustion, he might be panicking. He might be fearful. He might have dread running down his spine. Instead, he had the abrasive words of Cero crashing into his brain, telling him to fight forward. To face his pain.

"Phase one, face pain. Phase two on standby."

Haruka kept his thoughts in order as he approached her.

"Karin."

His throat was caught, but were words necessary for the act that was proceeding this? He shut his eyes as he approached her, at first looking to reach out his hand but then realizing the foolishness of it. All he said to her before engaging, as depraved was his hostility, was...

"I wish Sera could be here to do this."

He engaged his 'sister,' looking to do what Sera wanted most.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Dementuo Sun Oct 23, 2016 12:44 am

Words were exchanged at the start of the fight between "siblings". Apologies, reasons why they did what they did, attempts to turn eachother towards their own truth... But by the time Sovereign appeared, they both fell silent. There had already been so much pain between them, so much despair. Neither of them wanted it to continue, and Karin knew that the end was looming over her... And so she fought, with every bit of strength she could muster. She didn't show it, but she let her power run free, and the fight's result was determined. With Haruka having to assist twice before reaching Grade 3, and Sovereign's own enhanced skill, another win for Karin unfolded. Only this time...

...Upon inflicting the final damage, Karin collapsed. She could barely feel a thing, and her eyes blurred over. The strain in her heart was completely gone- In fact, she couldn't feel her heart at all. The seed had, at last, swallowed it completely. "F-Finally... The... end..."

She fell to the ground, the menacing figure of Sovereign still glaring down at them.

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Jello Sun Oct 23, 2016 1:14 am

The timer was set. Count it from zero.

The battle was definitely out of his favor, as he missed Ultimate Flare's appearance from the beginning. Reaching into the deck for the rush wasn't favoring either. No matter how hard he pressed the advantage, he lost the edge. His grip was slipping on everything, like water through the tips of his fingers. He delved in to reach for hope but only came back with a handful of liquidized dreams.

With the battle raging on, Sovereign's power struck through Haruka and the Raizers that he was lent by Butler-san only an hour prior. They were not in-sync  by the greatest of margins, only able to relate by a mere distinct fear of the future approaching. He was taken to defeat, only to see Sovereign wrap its filthy claws around his sister.

His everything began to violently shake. The world inside and out was trembling at the moral comprehension everyone was facing. The world and Haruka were simultaneously realizing that the concrete effects of saving the world are never absolute, and so he decided against them now.

Saving the world is impossible. No beacon of light can save everyone. Because for someone to be saved, someone has to die. For someone to win, someone has to lose. The casuality principle reigned supreme once more in the world, so Haruka was going to take every advantage of it he could here and now. What was left of Karin was all he had.

"Everyone, step back a few!"

Haruka rushed across the last remaining feet of park to Karin, seeking to catch her frame as she descended to the ground. His arms caught her body, but her spirit was drifting, fading, being devoured by an enmity greater than everyone here would seek to bear witness. Haruka's eyes drifted over his 'sister,' memories of the sparse past they've been able to share. But he stopped them from flooding. He didn't want to remember them now.

He wanted more of them. Reminiscing is for the dead or the dying, and Haruka refused to fucking give up on this person who didn't give up on him. His bottom lip nearly bled from how hard he bit as he held her in his grip, shaking and seeking a path to bring her back.

His voice was coarse. Weak.

"Karin... no... no, no, no..."

His grip tightened. His words were devolving, becoming rambling rather than words. Cries. Screams. Time was fleeting, and so was Karin. So he gave it up. All of it. He looked for an answer in the most unlikely of places. He obtained the Grade 3 from his deck, Ultimate Raizer Mega Flare. He pulled back to seek her limp frame in his arms, placing it on her chest. His eyes looked to hers, and as his voice spoke up, a deafening sound rang. Like that of a bell, a far distant bell. Though only Karin and Haruka could hear it, the words he spoke were blasted out of existence by it. What seemed like a pillar of light formed around Haruka and then Karin, as the Grade 3 he placed on her dissolved.

She hadn't come back. It didn't work. The restoration process that Chronojet had lent them was failing him once more, and he just couldn't do it. Why couldn't he....

No, he had to do it. Here and now, because he refused to see another person he could have saved be sent to a place that he can't reach. Where his fingers can't touch. Where his words can't be heard, nor their face found.

He removed every card from the deck, placing them once more to Karin, screaming now, but again the words were tolled by a bell. This time it was no a pillar, but a ball, no, a blast of blinding light within the park. The cards were obliterated by it, as a vague emblem transcribed into them and disappeared.

Karin laid in Haruka's arms, still. Was it enough?

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Dementuo Sun Oct 23, 2016 1:50 am

Karin awoke, in the small room she had found herself in after her fight with Yukino. She was staring at the representation of her heart once more. It was the same as before, the tiny void seed attached to it, the cinders burned into the side opposite it, only... This time, her heart was covered in the black tendrils of the seed. It had taken root there, and grown as she fought and battled and lost and wore herself down. All the while, the seed was here, growing stronger by the minute. And now, it had finally finished growing, and it covered Karin's heart whole.

But then, a light shimmered into view. Karin looked up- The light was blinding to her, like a ray of the sun piercing through parted clouds. She put a hand to cover her eyes from the light as it descended, edging ever closer towards the dimly-lit cinders embedded in her heart's side. As it neared, the cinders seemed to react, slowly brightening, just slightly... And from the cinders, a second light emerged. A light Karin recognized.

The light Yukino had displayed during their fight. The light intended to strike at the seed directly, but had been taken in by the cinders instead.

The two lights drew towards one another, just barely touching. And in that moment, they merged into one, much larger light. It grew ever larger, the cinders flaring up with it. The cinders slowly turned to light.

And light turned to embers.

And embers turned to fire.

And fire roared loudly and flourished in a great flame.

The seed's tendrils shook as the flame began to lick at them, shriveling back into their core as the flame slowly worked its way across her heart. They pushed the seed back, further and further, until it was completely engulfed in flame. And then... another Karin stepped out from the flames, with glowing orange eyes.

Karin stared at her double, tired and confused. She could see her Reaper's eyes reflected in her counterpart's. "Who are you...?"

The double gave her a sad look, and shook her head. "I'm what you were supposed to be. The path you were meant to walk. And..." She turned to face their fiery heart. "...I'm sorry, that we couldn't save you. That we came too late."

"What are you... talking about...?"

The doppelganger turned back, and put a hand to the other Karin's shoulder. "...It's alright. You don't have to worry about it anymore. Your part is over."
A tear fell from Karin's black and yellow eye. "I..."
"You can rest now."

Karin's eyes faded, turning from a Reaper's back to their normal, blue color. Her body began to shimmer with orange light, and slowly faded away. She fell into her counterpart's arms, and gave her final words.

"...Thank you."

---

A ring of fire slowly began to rise up around Karin and Haruka. It encircled them completely, and the fire rose up to the air.

And then, all at once, it exploded.

The flames rose high into the sky, completely engulfing Karin. The flames did nothing to Haruka, leaving him completely unharmed. Pulling herself up from his arms, she stood. She stepped forward, gripped the handle of the jagged, discolored sword, and yanked it from the ground. Raising it skyward, the flames rose with it. Light burst forth from it, and it took on an entirely new shape. The blade was now curved and shined like gold. A small, scaled tendril wrapped itself around the handle underneath Karin's fingers, and the hilt spread out, like four shimmering wings. Light shot into the air, and a large, burning "X" appeared in the sky.

She turned the blade towards the clone of Sovereign. "SOVEREIGN! HARBINGER! I KNOW YOU CAN BOTH HEAR ME!" Her voice echoed loudly, and the shade of Sovereign glared at her before raising a hand, and bringing it down on top of her. Karin extended her other hand, and within the moment of the Reaper's fist colliding with her...

...Her appearence changed completely, donning her new, awakened form.

They collided, and Karin held the Reaper clone in place, pushing back with equal force. "Like this thing could hurt me any more!" She shouted out to it, pulling her sword back to strike. With a swing, she cleaved through three of its fingers. It reeled back and drew its hand away, forming a concentrated orb of void in the other. Bringing his other hand down, the void orb was aimed directly at Karin. Bringing her sword back around, she leaped into the air and swung, splitting the orb clean in two... And then going even further, slicing right through the hand that carried the orb. Karin was now running up the Reaper clone's arm, holding her sword at her side. The reaper turned to face her, the gash Sovereign had suffered from the previous fight now appearing across his face.

"SOVEREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGN!!!"

Her blade shined brilliantly, like that of Exculpate's own, and Karin felt the bit of Yukino's light manifest. Taking the stance of Exculpate, she launched right at Sovereign's head. Sovereign raised his remaining hand and formed another orb of void in it. Karin swung her blade anyway.

It pierced the orb.

It pierced his armor.

It slashed straight through his neck, and the Sovereign duplicate's head was cut clean off.

The entirety of the Reaper clone's body burst in a flash of light, and Karin stuck her landing. Her armor faded in a blaze of fire, and she returned to her normal self. "...Rest quietly... as a memory."

The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand Empty Re: The Paths We Walk - Karin's Final Stand

Post by Jello Sun Oct 23, 2016 7:01 pm

Haruka watched as his sister emerged like a phoenix from the ashes, her form taking control of the blade which he had brought with him. The way she came back with such vigor made him feel a few things, but the only thing that mattered was success. She wasn't taken away by the one thing he feared most now, and that meant a success. A tried and true, genuine success. The hands of victory were, for once, on the side of the betters, not the house. So he wiped his eyes of beading tears, closed his throat off from visceral screams. He sat in joy, his eyes fading with life.

Just barely he managed to stand, watching as his sister took down her own corrupted existence. His smile gave way to the tears he tried to stop, but only a couple. They fell, hit the stone pathway of the park. He whispered into his bangle, a voice so soft, so reticent, one might think it was an illusion, were it not for the static that it generated.

"Mission... accomplished. Return to... base... for debrief--..."

His voice cut off on his own, his head now whirring. There was... something he needed to do. Someone he had to reach. Taking all the strength he could muster, he turned off, Karin reigning in a glorious golden victory. While he wanted to stay for her, and congratulate her, and be the very first to welcome her to life, he was the one who was now fading from life. Though, he didn't dare let any of it show, as he escaped from view. There was someone, or little did Haruka know, someone(s) waiting for him at the Mansion where he was headed. He simply left words to the wind for his sister, a bit louder than an audible mutter.

"Welcome home, Karin. We've missed you."

He smiled, his footsteps full to a stumble as he trekked home.
